Countering cybercrime

The Main Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Criminal Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus ("Department K") warns about the increasing number of cybercrimes.

Cybercrimes — crimes involving the use of computer technology (crimes against information security, theft using computer technology, blackmail, extortion, production and distribution of pornographic materials, etc.)

The Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus contains a number of articles providing for criminal liability for cybercrimes:

  • Art. 212 "Theft by means of computer technology";
  • Art. 349 "Unauthorized access to computer information";
  • Art. 350 "Modification of computer information";
  • Art. 351 "Computer sabotage";
  • Art. 352 "Unlawful possession of computer information";
  • Art. 353 "Manufacture or sale of special means for obtaining unauthorized access to a computer system or network";
  • Art. 354 "Development, use or distribution of malicious programs";
  • Art. 355 "Violation of the rules for operating a computer system or network".

OJSC "558 Aviation Repair Plant" has successfully passed certification for the right to perform major repairs of civil helicopters of the Mi-8/17 type.

Types of cybercrimes:

Vishing (vishing – voice + phishing) — is an oral form of phishing in which attackers, through telephone communication, using techniques, methods and technologies of social engineering, under various pretexts, skillfully playing a certain role (usually a bank employee, technical specialist, etc.), force a person to disclose their confidential banking or personal data, or stimulate them to perform certain actions with their bank account or bank card.

Phishing (phishing from fishing) – a type of fraud whose goal is to obtain confidential data to access various services (email, social network page, Internet banking, etc.).

Smishing (smishing – SMS + phishing) – a type of fraud whose goal is to click on a link in an SMS and/or download malicious software. A smishing message usually looks similar to a message from a bank, government agency, telecommunications operator, well-known store, as well as a sudden lottery or promotion win, etc.
