From Chad to Ethiopia: State Military‑Industrial Committee deepens cooperation with African partners

As part of strengthening military‑technical cooperation with African states, the Belarusian delegation led by the Chairman of the State Military‑Industrial Committee continues its working visit to the countries of the region. The next stage of the tour following the Republic of Chad was the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, where the delegation is working on January 22‑23, 2026.

The visit began with a narrow‑format meeting between the Head of the Belarusian defense industry department Dmitry Pantus and the Minister of National Defence of Ethiopia, Ms. Aisha Mohammed. During the conversation, held in a warm and trusting atmosphere, current issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of defence and security were discussed, as well as prospects for expanding cooperation between the military‑industrial complexes of our countries.

The business program of the Chairman of the State Military‑Industrial Committee Dmitry Pantus continued with a meeting with the top military leadership of Ethiopia – the Chief of the General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defence Force, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula Gelalcha. The focus of the discussion was on specific areas of military‑technical cooperation and the procedure for their implementation.

During the meetings, documents were signed laying the legal foundation for bilateral cooperation and defining the main directions of its development for the next five years:

  • Memorandum of Understanding between the State Military‑Industrial Committee and the Ministry of Defence of Ethiopia;
  • Roadmap for military‑technical cooperation between the State Military‑Industrial Committee and the Ministry of Defence of Ethiopia for 2025‑2030.

In addition, the Regulations on the Joint Belarusian‑Ethiopian Committee on Military‑Technical Cooperation were signed. This body will serve as a working tool for the practical implementation of existing projects and the identification of new areas of interaction.

The signed documents became an important outcome of the negotiations, outlining clear vectors for the development of partnership in the field of defence and security.
